WHO KNEW THIS???
I definitely did NOT know this, but I will from now on.

I have been driving for nearly 50 years... I would think I should have noticed the little secret on my dashboard that was staring me in the face the whole time...I didn't...and I bet you didn't either...

Have you ever rented or borrowed a car and when arriving at the gas station wondered...mmm, which side is the gas filler cap?
My normal solution was to stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look, try to see in the side mirrors or even get out of the car!
Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the gas station or put your neck at risk of discomfort or injury.

If you look at your gas gauge, you will see a small icon of a gas pump ?
The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the gas pump?
If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left? If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right

Hi Eggy.
I've just go into work (05:30) and one of the first things I do is log on to see whats happening with my old mates, and having just read your post I'm so gob smacked that even though It's P*:~ing down with rain I've got to go out and check this unbelivable bit of information out, I have the use of two cars and typical the tanks are on opisit sides, this is not a age thing now as I've all ways been the same, I can never remember which one is which.
Thanks m8 you could of picked a dry day to tell us, cant wate to pass this info on to the Anne.

What happens when you have TWO tanks on you van one with Petrol and one with LPG. I will have to see what side the handle is, but otherwise very good. thanks.

Thats probably why Rover went bust Dusty - Couldn't keep up with progress and didn't know their left from their right. LOL

Am I awkward too? Cos my car has the pump thing on the right inside my Austin Mini 1991 (its a patriotic thing) but the tank is on the left side of the car. Maybe its only British makes that don't go along with this logical theory.

OK - just nipped out to look at the fuel gauge - the fuel pump symbol above it has the handle on the right and so has the one that lights up when I turn the ignition on and only comes back on whilst driving, with a 'ping' noise to indicate low fuel.

My car is American (Dodge) and as the initial post called fuel 'gas' I'm guessing the email originated from the states.

We also have a Volvo - filler cap on left, fuel gauge symbol handle on right. I reckon most cars' gauge symbols have the handle on the right and most cars have their filler caps on the right.

Conclusion - cobblers! It may or may not be the case - just take note of where the filler cap is, and if you forget, big deal, the pump hose will reach over, unless you are female and have parked too far away from the pump.

TAKE COVER!!!

I got an old H Reg Rover 25 and I am lucky, I can pull a lever by seat and the petrol flap opens, I can then see which side I need to go at a petrol station.

You must be one of the lucky ones I drive a 06 Plate Volvo and when I pull up at a petrol station I have to get out my caf after I stopped it and pull the reay diesel cap cover open. So much for mordern cars hey.
