Royal Welsh set to enjoy city's ultimate accolade.

A homecoming parade is taking place on Saturday September 13th for the 1st Battalion Royal Welch when their links with the city are being reaffirmed.

The event is to welcome the soldiers back from their tours of Iraq and Afghanistan. The Battalion has been awarded The Freedom of Swansea City on 2 other occasions.

The parade will start after inspection by the Lord Mayor outside Swansea Guildhall. The Prince of Wales Divisional Band is to led the parade through Swansea. BrigadierRGM Porter will take the salute at the end of the parade.

I am sure a good day will be had by those who attend. Some of us old boys should all meet up after (may be in the Royal Welch Club, Walters road.) for a few bevies.

Just got the timings for Saturday 13 sept. The parade will form up out side the Guildhall at 11 am, and will march along St Helen's road, the kings way.Dilwyn street, oxford street, Castle street,Whitewalls and then back to the Guildhall along south road. There is a reception for invited guests, including the families of the servicemen and women will be held at the Brangwyn hall. So if any one Fancy's a beer or six after the parade we can all meet up at the Royal Welch club on Walters road see you there, all the best to the boys on parade saturday...............

Dave,

Thanks for this. Not being political, at least 1 R WELSH got a write up for the parade.

On a lighter note, I see from the article, that they were accompanied by the division, I pressume that should have been the band, lol.

Regards

Roger

What a day, fantastic parade and support from civpop and comrades alike was good to meet a few of the older guys and catch up on things also chatting to a few of the younger Fusiliers to find them in good spirits and enjoying the job they are doing . Enjoy your well deserved leave and all the best for the future
