The attached news article shows just how politically correct we are getting.
By way of an update the Officer's and Warrant Officer's (Colour Party, RSM, Band, Corps of Drums and Pioneer WO) of all 3 Battalions of The Royal Welsh will continue to wear the Bearskin when in Cerimonial Full Dress (Scarlets). The remainder will wear the Sealskin Cap (less the goat major who will wear a Colonial Hat). At the moment there is not the stock to achieve this, hopefully it is just a matter of time before it is financed.

Hi Dave
Can you clear a couple of points for me.
Drummers of the three Bn's will wear bearskins and not sealskins (1st bn drummers always wore sealskins and D/M wore the full Bearskin) and can you confirm that the 1st Bn Goar Major will wear the Colonial Helmet. Pioneers of the 1st Bn also wore sealskins including the Pioneer Sgt. Can you clear things up mate

Dave/Dia,
The 1st Bn should keep the sealskins for the Drummers, Pioneers and the Goat Major, and the Drummy to wear the Bearskin, Pioneer Sgt, to only wear the Bearskin if they are promoted to W02.
Has anything changed regarding the designation (names) of the goats, and is the goat for the 1st Bn still a present from the Royal Herd? Will the goat from the 1s have to wear a coat like he 2nd and 3rd Bn's?
Hate to say it, but are 2/3 RW getting their way again?

Dai, to clarify any confusion.
The headress for members of the Colour Party, Band, Corps of Drums and Pioneers in Full Cerimonial Dress (Scarlets) is the same as when you were the Drum Major. The one change will be the new cap badge to replace the flaming grenade.
The Goat Major will be the only member of each Battalion to wear the Tropical Colonial Hat, again the new cap badge will go on it.
The headress will be the same for all three Battalion's of The Royal Welsh.

Rog,
Only Officers, Warrant Officers and the appointment of Drum Major will wear Bearskins (no change)
Billy will remain the Goat of the First Battalion, all three Battalion goats come from the Royal Herd (no change)
The Goat Major and Goat will be modelled on that of the RRW (wear a coat)
Are the Second and Third Battalion getting their way again? No, there has to be some compromise. When the Regiment are on parade for a cerimonial occassion, there will be very little differance in headress as there was when the Royal Welch Fusiliers were on parade (with the exception of the Goat Major). The members of the Colour Parties, Band, Corps of Drums and Pioneers will all be wearing bearskins or sealskins, while the parade behind them will be in Royal Service Dress Hats (Officers and RSMs) while SNCOs, JNCOs and Fus/Ptes will be wearing Dark Blue Berets and Hackles (the only slight differance will be WO2s who will wear Forage Caps instead of Berets). Like i said we have to compomise, and unfortunatly something has to give.
Hi Dave
Thanks a lot mate
regards
Dai
