Hi all i was at Bassingbourn training camp two weeks ago to watch my nephew pass out to join the royal logistic corps. it was a great day with two platoons made up from the tanks regiments, infantry ,Royal engineers , REME and RLC so there was quite a mixed bag of uniforms on parade that day . the drill was exultant the young lads did them self's proud. The band was from the Prince of Wales Div which really put the swagger in to the parade the hairs still stand up when they step off to lead the platoons on, the only thing missing was having the drums at the front of them . I suppose its a sign of the times when the Battalions no longer have there own band, which is a sad thing as they lifted us up with music they played for us when we went away and came home after a tour, but all said and done it was great to hear military marching music again. has the battalion still got an active drums plt and if so do they tour with the band any more ?

Hi 60 mate there is still an active drums platoon within the battalion, Anthony MaCarten is the present Drum Major. However like you said there is no band within the 1st Bn, the only active Band is with the 3rd Bn which is second to none. and we are very lucky to have them., they are the ones you see on international rugby days at the millenium stadium.
