View Full Version : The Price of Fuel
An article in the a local Kuwait news paper today quoted that from Jan until today their export price had risen from $85 a barrel to $125 - ontop of annual profit this would lead to an excess of 10billion Kuwaity Dina for the year with the current exchange of 1KD to roughly 1.85 UK sterlin that is some slush fund and God knows how many barrels.
just as an insight, when i came home in april it cost me 40 quid just to fill my 1lt clio, it costs me 6 quid here to fill a 4x4. how much will it cost me in july back home lol.
Its a shame wales was producing the other black stuff.

Its the reality of living in the UK today. When the price of oil started going up the price started going up on the forecourts, the cost of a litre of diesel around here (Rhymney Valley) is £1.30 and it seems to go up every week. Not only that but all the protests that are going on seems to fall on deaf ears, this government is going to put a 2p tax on a litre of petrol/diesel in October. This government has got it into their heads that by doing this they will discourage us from buying/using the dreaded 4x4 hence helping the enviroment. What they fail to understand is that these price rises are hitting the working class people, those who can afford the bigger engine cars can usually afford not to worry about the price rises.

Your absolutely right Paul. Here in Aberystwyth and Ceredigion in particular we have to rely heavily on a personal vehicle as living in a rural area is not conducive to the luxury of a public transport sysytem that can deliver residents around the six towns within the county given the requirements for work and home that are now the norm of of modern day life. Today the cheapest1 litre of diesel cost £1.32.9 and that's in a Supermarket if you go for a branded fuel i.e. Shell, BP etc it's £1.35.9 per litre.
Why then do vehicles that have low emmission levels using a cleaner fuel (diesel) get hammered so much by this Government when DUTY and VAT comprises nearly 2/3rds of the cost of each litre of fuel we have to buy?
We are being taxed twice each time we buy fuel. Surely this is both morally wrong as well as a stealth tax on the poor car user who as in my case has no other method of travel to earn a crust?

My son has just come home on leave from his base in Germany. Last year he bought a Jeep Cherokee 4x4 with the intention of travelling back and forth. He cannot get over how expensive petrol & diesel is in this country and how much it has gone up over the past year, it now costs him £80 to fill up his tank where as a year ago it was half that. His Regt is returning to the UK in August and he has come to realise now that he has to downsize his car as he knows he cannot afford to continue to run his current car
