View Full Version : James Thomas Oldham RWF - 1905
Hi
I have a relative that died in 1905 in manchester, he served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers (this is on his death certificate)
I just wondered if there are any records anywhere which could give me any further information about him & his serving time. His name was James Thomas Oldham.
Many thanks for reading my post

Hi Stacey, welcome to the Forum.
Couple of questions:
1. How old was James when he died.
2. What was the cause of death
3. If he was a young man at death, do you think he was still serving, or is there any suggestion on the certificate that he was a former member of the regiment.

Hi Stacey being a Manchester lad myself mate (For my sins) two of my grandfathers farthers brothers died in the 1st World War and served in th Royal Welch cant remember the Bn but was in the Twenties. I had the paper cutings and regarding them. From my grandfather when he knew I had joined the regiment. During the time of the Great War there were a lot of pits in the Manchester area with strong Welsh communities which did supply great numbers to the Regiment. I was also suprised whislt serving in ACIO Oldham on the LSL as office manager just how many ex Royal Welch from the WW2 and the 50's live in the area. I have tried to reserch my relatives war records but had no luck through the records office as we discoverd a lot where destroyed during the Blitz on London during WW2. Al is a great help and I am sure some one will have good advice on the forum for you. If you have his service number it is a great help good luck mate.
