So come on - who was into the sound? Who danced up a storm of talcum powder? Who wore bags and braces? I bet there were a few.
My brother Ken just sent me a cd and my mate Al has been emailing me music for a bit now, it's given me a real lust for dance again too. I recently read that Northern Soul is experiencing a massive revival because everyone has had their kids and are "reclaiming" their lives, at least their night lives. I've seen ads for Amlwch All Nighters (I know, it made me laugh too) it's an Anglesey All nighter - I'm sure we never had them back in the day, I had enough trouble getting my Dad to let me go to Colwyn Bay Pier, anyways over the Welsh Border was "Out Of The Bloody Question Girl" - so Wigan remained a deep and unfulfilled desire. As my younger brother buggered off with his mates in their car, wearing their bombers, North Wales Northern Soul tags and carrying little sports bags...I cried.
Why I'm curious? Well I nearly broke my neck flying across the floor tiles after a rather enthusiastic spin during "Do I love you"....I can't quite spin as fast anymore, and definitely not in socks aye :winker:
Now,I'd love to hear about your NS experiences.
Pat'll be back in a minute and I have to learn to walk again before he takes the pee big time.
Keep the Faith People, Keep the Faith :notworthy:

Sharon I use to go to Wigan Casino in fact went to the First event there, I also use to go to Jeraldos in St Helens, and the Coastliner I think it was called in Old Colwyn, never heard of any in the Bay but the was an All dayer there.

The Twisted Wheel and the Torch was just to early for me by a year I think, and the Carlton Warrington got closed down!

There was also Blackpool Mecca and the Compass Club in Torquay.

I use to go to the Palace Rhyl then 4 of us back to my mates house at midnight his mum was a Star she would feed us all Burgers Chips Pies and give us stuff to take with us then it was bags in the car and off to Wigan.

We would have a great night in there and meets mates from all over, it was very popular although it never had a drinks license, So it was Meat & Potato pies and Tea, but the music was out of this world.

You could dance on the spring loaded floor or observe from the balcony or have a kip on the floor, Mr Ms a separate disco was off to one side it was the place for Classic tunes.

Great night and in the morning it was straight into Wigan Baths next door for a swim with soap!

We would head back to Rhyl stop at the little Chef just outside Chester, then back in Rhyl for opening time at the Palace, What a Life!

Yes So I guess I was one of the Northern Dancers a Night Owl, but the legs have seen better days, so I am more a shuffle now.

Keep the Faith

Lol, sounds great Barry. They had the odd allnighter on the pier in the early 80's. Was it Dixies? (can't remember - old age) I do recall going out with girlfriends to Rhyl one night, missing the train and walking from Rhyl to Colwyn Bay (what can I say, we were drunk and young) When we got to the the station at about 6am after hitching a lift with some lads in a capri (stupid yeah), all the benches were taken by sleepy Anglesey types who' d been dancing the night away. I remember being really miffed that nobody had told me about it (they couldn't find me, I was in Rhyl) and giving friends who were there an earful at the crack of dawn, which wasn't appreciated...at all :biglaugh: I'm trying to remember another place in the sticks we went to dance in the summertime, Plas Goch? Anyway, it smelled of mould and was seriously grotty, but we didn't care :cute:

Hey Glen, I wasn't old enough to got to most places either - you're right, that's why they seemed brilliant  Mind you, my father and uncles were bouncers in most places, so even if I was allowed in I was policed from begin to end. Illegal Babychams - ROFL.
As soon as we were old enough, it all seemed like old hat and we complained about "the kids" being allowed in. I'm trying to remember another location that we had Pencraig College parties at, but it really is buried deep in the memory, any ideas? It was another old building with arches around the dance floor on one side I think, and all dark wood with red velvet chair covers.
