Hi Vikki,

Welcome to the forum.

If your father was a regular soldier and a member of the Royal Welch Fusiliers in 1980/81 he would have been a member of the 1st Battalion. The 2nd Battalion was disbanded in the 1950's. I don't think he was A Company

What detail do you have relating to your fathers service, so that we can assist.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Al,
You are right Al, the second was disbanded in 1957. Funnily enough there was a Hadley from the RWF who ate the leek as the youngest soldier in our Saint Davids Day dinner in the Whyndam, Hotel Jamaica on our visit in 1993. I cannot remember his christian name.
Regards Don

HI Vikki,

Things are slightly clearer. I recognise 3 names on that list. In particular Darker and Pugsley both RWF. I suspect that all of those names are from his training platoon at Depot Crickhowell in 1980. The vast majority of those named are not RWF, but from all the other regiments within the Prince of Wales Division. Mainly RRW, Glosters and Devon & Dorsets. Are you 100% certain he was RWF

I notice the name "Freeman" that may be Dean Freeman RRW who is active on the Royal Welsh Veterans Site. Perhaps one of the RRW boys can alert him to this message. If your father was discharged from training, I would say that it would be extremely difficult to track the guys down.
?
Pugsley was from Newport, some of our guys may be able to tell you if he is still about.

I think that the Cpl Perry may be Stu Perry who was a Depot Instructor at around about that time. I'm not sure if he is a member of the Forum.

yeah drake was definately plassey platoon. ask him if he remebers a fella called lobeck. if he knows lobeck and Mike Clarke then he was definately in Plassey plattoon in training. I was there in 1981 as Led Said and in Salamanca Platoon before joining the Drums. Another one was a fella called West from Caerphilly.

However everyone would know lobeck, and if he states he was with the 2nd Battallion, the RRW are now our 2nd Battallion which he would be stating the correct statement.

How old would he be now because if he was in Plassey Platoon he would be around early to late 43 or just turned 44.

Cpl Perry also rings a bell

regards

its definitely an Early 80 Platoon. I was 3 Platoon with Pugsley in 1980. He was certainly with me in Belfast Feb-July 1981. He would have joined the battalion at a similar time to Paul Dyer. Darker was the younger brother of Dickie Darker, he was with Bravos. He later transferred to the RRW

Vikki has posted some pictures. Her Dad is shown wearing what I think is an RRW Hat and Collar Dogs. Vikki you need to visit the Royal Regiment of Wales Website at:

Hi everyone, I was in Salamanca platoon 1981-82 and passed out with Salamanca and plassey platoons, after passing out moved into plassey plt lines and joined the Cambrian march platoon of which drake was one, we were sitting about outside doing a bit of training with bayonets and drake decided to play chicken with me and his bayonet so drake being drake got the hump cos I didn't move my hand wen he was stabbing the ground between my fingers so the crazy sod stabbed me in the leg good eh that's my memory of drake so if your reading this you crazy sod....cheers still got the scar. Great days lads 30 years ago now but remember it like yesterday was a pleasure to have grown into soldiers together, last thing does anyone remember phill antle, tug Wilson, bob Vaughan and Jap jones from Salamanca platoon our section commander was Keith finnamore of Devon and dorsets great guy we won the best section mop that year and went skiing to silberhutte in Germany as reward happy days lads, take care, Nigel jones49 ex 1rrw
