I have had a lady call me today asking for help with the search for any details on her father in law. can anyone advise,

She has some paperwork about medals but it is badly burnt.

Easy Job Will.
Because the guy served after 1920, his service record is held by the MOD. You will need to print off the Certificate of Kinship, at the link below:

Get the relatives to fill it in completely, enclosing a cheque for £30, and post it to the following address:

It will take a few months for the MOD to respond, but the family will receive Jame's service record. Looking at his birth date, he was 2 months older than my father, who served in the latter parts of the war. Its possible that James may have made it to India with the 2nd Bn, certainly he would have served in Japan in 1946.
