Al, Many Thanks for that

It appears that the 1st Bn The Royal Welsh have been quite busy over there in Cyprus (its not the "sunshine posting" anymore). Let us hope that they will get a 40 page coverage in the next issue of the so called "Y Cymro" as did the 2nd Bn did on the 1st issue? ( I'm still maroon and blue) .

Yours

Hi Benny,

To prevent the Afghanistan Updates thread from going off in a tangent, I have created a new thread to accommodate your post and any subsequent replies.

Benny, Forgive my ignorance but what is the "Y Cymro". Is it a new publication for the Regt or something?

cheers,

Hello Scouse,
Y Cymro is the new journal supposed to be for the new regiment after the merger. Y Cymro means The Welshmen no one was asked about the name for a new journal or even a competition for the name etc.It appears that any form of consultation was not needed??????????????????????????????????????If as you say you know nothing about Y Cymro ior its content quit whilst you are in front and do not bother even looking at it
Regards RBD aks "Don" late of the 1st & 2nd Battalions RWF aka 9The Claret & Royal blue forgotten army)

Hello Scouse,
Y Cymro means The Welsh man, it is supposed to represent both battalions of the new regiment under the terms of the merger. I must point out that I thought a competition for the name of the regt journal may have been held with a prize for the winner a form of democracy if you like. But I think you are better off for not knowing any thing about Y Cymro. And I reckon whilst you are in front do not bother even looking at it. Just keep on taking the tablets and having a jug or two.

Regards Don aka RBD

Don,

Again, I regret I must respond to either the form or content of your posting. Perhaps much of the alienation you appear to feel from the new Regiment, is because you refuse to engage with it in any form?

Y Cymro was named after much deliberation; it was felt that it was neither desirable or practical to unify the Regimental journal under either preceding names (YDG or MoH). It ultimately fell to the Colonel of the Regiment (Brigadier Porter) to decide.

With regards your appreciation of its (de)merits....I think that it's generally accepted that it is 'work in progress', and to encourage others to avoid it veers on outright irresponsibility. I am certain that RHQ would welcome any contribution for the community of comrades.

Benny's point about the disparity in representation between 1st and 2nd Bns in the inaugural issue, is valid; but RHQ publish all contributions from the Battalions, so this is representative of what 1st Bn submitted. No conspiracy (again!).

A reminder of our 'tag line'...."The Royal Welsh: It's what you make it!"
