POW WW1

Charles Henry Fellows

Just got grandads records from his army days, it looks as though he was a POW while out in France.

1st is this possible,
2nd is there a way I could find out about his capture / stay as a POW

The name Fellows is not on my list of RWF P.o.W's. The nearest is Fitzgibbons A drummer. But having said that my list may be incomplete.

What info do you have already ? And are we talking about 2nd Lieutenant Fellows ?

Yes it is 2nd Lieutenant Charles Henry Fellows , my Granfather that I am checking on. Do you know of him ?

I have just this week taken delivery of his army records and they are full of information.
It looks also that when he went to France on duty his army no. changed to 350961 from 6619 as I am not completly up to speed with army matters I am not sure why this would have been.

Then he joined his unit in France (Litherland) as Sgt. 19/08/1917 and discharged again to Temp 2nd Lt. comm no. 203 01//09/1918
He was in France for a total of 358 days.
This info from his protection certificate/order says he was being Gazetted out of service from area 7 Labour Corps unit 139 POW Coy.
His medical category was B11 or may be 1311.
Now I have read it again I may have gone off a little in the wrong direction. Not a POW at all. Thank God.
Can you help unravel any of the info here and advise me about it's meaning.

Hi Derek,

My only comment at this stage is that Litherland refers to the 3rd(Reserve) Bn RWF, based at Litherland Camp Liverpool. Many thousands of Royal Welchmen passed through this camp, before deploying to the front. Any reference to that location would indicate he is still UK based.

Just to let you know, it turns out that grandad was a cook for the POW's in Liverpool this is where I was confused when I saw the POW on his army records.
He was time served in Agra India too
