this might seem a bit daft but motorhead wrote a song called 1916 , and due to them not being the most radio friendly band i think most of the known world have never heard it , i played it for a couple of old guys in the pub where i drink and they thought it amazing .
there are no guitars or drums just lemmy singin and a harmonian pipe organ . please read the lyrics below .
You might find it moving

16 years old when I went the war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died,
And I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time that a year in the line,
Is a long enough life for a soldier,
We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
Ready for history's pages,
And we brawled and we fought and we whored 'til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun,
And that's what you are when you're soldiers,

I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother and she never came,
Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame,
The day not half over and ten thousand slain,
And now there's nobody remembers our names,
And that's how it is for a soldier.

i will try and add it to music part of this forum , Motorhead have a bit of a following now me and the other 6 are at every show.

Hiya Led, not being a big heavy metal fan I read that with scepticism at first, then with enjoyment and eventually with cold shivers and a lump in my throat. Thanks for sharing that, it's amazing!

You need to hear the song, Led's spot on with his description of amazing.

I get to every Motorhead gig I can the music, atmoshphere and that wall of sound is an experience everone should have at least once in their life.

He's done a good job there Led. Is it a new track, or has it been knocking about for a while. Great backing track for a tribute!!!, I'ts been stuck it up on ARRSE, it will be interesting to watch the response.

this song is off a 1991 motorhead lp called 1916 so it a bit of an oldie , it was a strange song for motorhead but i think a much underated classic , lemmy wrote it abount the battle of the somme , Like i said i played to a couple of old guys in the pub and they hate motorhead but after hearing 1916 they had tears in there eyes.
a true classic , can every one buy all motorhead cd's , lemmy wants all your money.

There is a guy on ARRSE called theoriginalphantom, who is also slightly deranged and worships the hairgod that is Lemmy. He sent me these links. Sounds like your perfect male partner Led.

cheers al , thanks for the links but i have everything motorhead have ever done , my wife thinks i am motorhead mad .
thanks to everyone who gave 1916 a chance , i cant say that you will like the rest of the stuff that motorhead do but i feel if they got more radio play on some of there songs , more people might buy one off songs like 1916.
they have never played this song live and probably never will , it always reminds me of my grandad
