A number of weeks ago, quite a few Serving and Ex RWF lads met up in Wrexham for the night. myself and Jase Hill decided to come armed with a number of quiz questions relating to the Regiments posting to Berlin(89-92). The questions related to all things Berlin, from the Bus stop name at camp, to the name of the club below the NAAFI. It included battalion personalities and many memorable moments.
The quiz was well received and it certaintly had us scratching our heads. Im just putting the feelers out to see if there is enough interest for me to place a quiz onto the relevant page next week. Please could you reply if interested, and I will submit twenty or so Berlin related questions next week.
Regards,
Scouse 75
P.s- The answers to the examples were 'Hottengrund' and 'The Trench'!!

Apologies to older/younger forum members who were not in Berlin, but you will still probably score higher than Sid Burns!!
I'd have a go, but I dont think I will be getting a high score as I just got both of those wrong!!
Who said University educations are a waste of time :spinny:
Yes why not Scouce the only time I was below Sid was in Lanzendorfer weg he had the top flat in our block, now thats a red rag to a bull? is it not
But remember now us Pads never got many 24hr passes!!

But wasn't it great to be there at that historic time.
Our camp's perimiter wall at one end was 'the wall'
I remember taking the kids out on our bikes - hanging a right out of camp to 'the wall' - found a big hole and went through, cycled around the road between the two walls until we came to a hole - gap - on the other side (after stopping and exploring several lookout towers and filling a jar we found, with 'nomansland sand' - which I still have) and went through.
We pedalled through the forest and came across this cafe/bar by the side of a lake - had a bratty. Bombed home - got our swimming gear, went back and spent the rest of the day there - very weird feeling knowing we must have been the first Brits there for a long long time.
Next day I walked across Glienicke Bridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glienicke_Bridge) where spies used to be exchanged between East and West - there was this white line across the centre - the E German Guards were still on duty - man it felt so scary stepping across that.
Anyway - go for it - I only did half the tour before getting posted - but I was just about to become a military tour guide before I did - so I reckon I'll get a question right!
I know Berlin like the back of my ha ........ OMG - how long's that freakin' WART been there :wideeyed:

the insentive on bn runs was that the bar was open straight after,i think the regulars in the naafi bar were always in the top 10,remember the long walk back to B coy block after a night out it seemed hours

Bear,
That was the longest walk ever. Im sure they put Bravo's and the drums in the furthest block, just so we could sober up before we got to the block!! mind you, I seem to recall some covert breakfast making on the way down in the insecure cookhouse.I would like to add that in no way was I involved in any moonlit cookhouse operations!!

Bear, do you remember the night when I was duty RP and the current CO told me to stick the whole boxing team in the nick cause they were taking the p*%s out of him. It ended up with me and Nige Brockley fighting back to back with you lot. I wish the CO had listened to my advice when I said leave it to the morning. We had to get Irve and Charley Fenton to lock you up. I had a glass over my head for my troubles! Ever tried fighting on a wooden floor in ammo boots!
Which Cpl fell asleep hammered in his car....engine running behind the cpls mess, with his foot jammed on the throttle. He woke up as the boys were dragging him from the burning inferno....answers on a postcard:spinny:

Hi All
Count me in, cant see me doing well as most of the time it was a blur due to the hang overs. Monday mornings was a right wake up call. I'm sure thats the reason why i dont like larger any more.
As for the x-country, any one remember the beat up training for the Berlin half Marathon. What a beast.
Question: Who dicked us for that one?
I remember D coy being there, any one else?
Best years of my Single life being there, if only to be 19 again.
Currie
the one that was an inferno was it griffs??? spot on:biglaugh:
A.The crashed car by the guardroom belong to Andy Garrathy but i think Duke was driving when it crashed.
duke had the car outside the naafi
worse thing ever was being on cos in the naafi on a friday night , they had a group playing [cse show i think]. All the group got was abount 6000 cans and bottles chucked at them and poor old cos me had to clear the bar at 12 . After a mass fight with me in ammo boots sliding round like a ******* at abount 2 it was clear
on monday Irv asked me why i didnt call the gaurd out i told him due to the band being on that night it was not the best idea, if they ****ed me off the band had no chance
Irv just spat looked at me And said ''ther're all ****in pot eads''
Good old Irv , Pointless answer but he always made me laugh

The car that was put on its roof by unnamed members of Bravo's was Matty Palmers(6 pl Commander at the time) Morris minor!!
Griff 70 fell asleep while his car was on fire outside naafi(old white Renault)
Andy Garathy's car was a grey Astra. I remember using it for a CAS SIM exercise the day after, and got bollocked by the RMP as they hadnt examined yet!!!
it crashed on the loop road on way to Officers mess, near sports pavillion, then moved to front gate as an anti drink drive advert!!!!
Spent a lot of time in Grotty Charlotties, so not much hope !
Go for it mate.
