I have had a chat with Nicola Palterman, who designs and produces her own range of Jewellery, made from precious metals. www.nicolapalterman.com

She would be interested in producing an item for Forum Members, relating to the regiment. Obviously the simpler the design, the cheaper the production costs.

As an example, if Nicola was to produce a Flash in silver it would probably retail for about £30, in Gold about £50-60(ball park figures). If members were interested, we would probably go for an item that could be produced as a Tie Stud, Brooch or Cufflinks. Look at Nicolas web site and you will see what I mean.(this range is a good example) http://www.nicolapalterman.com/pure.htm

Whatever we did commission would be expertly crafted and unique.

Whats the view of the membership, are you interested?

Any ideas for a design....Simple is good

I like the idea of a flash, gold or silver for the lapel.

Yes, I like the idea of the flash for its uniqueness for a brooch in silver.

The flash is a great idea in Gold or Silver. I've tried to get the RWF dragon as a tie pin but cant get it anywhere. They used to sell them in the PRI gutted I didnt get one, then again I didnt think the RWF would be no more!!!!

Good Point Chalky.

In a nutshell, I shouldn't think so, but I'm not 100% sure. A glance at ebay shows many companies making money from the regiment, without permission. Members of the regimental committee visit this site on a daily basis, if there are any issues, I'm sure they will raise them with either myself or Bob. Either way we would probably ask a senior ranking member of the Forum to enquire for us.

On the money making side, we intend to keep the costs down, we may recoup a pound or so(a very small amount), to enable the forum to have a small fund, to cover software costs etc. At moment, The Comrades Association pays our annual server costs. and very grateful we are. If we add other utilities or improvements(such as the Reseach Archive) myself and Bob fund it ourselves, which isn't a problem, as it goes with the territory. But it would be useful to have a small sum of money available to maintain the site as the technology advances.

If anyone objects to that, we are quite happy to discuss it.

Incidentally, response to the Jewellery suggestion has so far been poor, it would only proceed, if supported. Also other ideas for an item in addition to the Flash design are welcome.

Thanks again

Your quite right Rich about the enamel Flash. This piece would be made of precious metal, and of a higher value. It doesn't have to be a Flash, it could be a design that reflects the Forum, its down to members to come up with ideas.

I had a gold Dragon tie pin ( approx 10mm) given to me as a gift when I was in Berlin, the PRI held them but I never saw anyone else with one, sadly I lost it at the last comrades weekend when someone grabbed my tie in jest, I'm gutted. So a Flash I believe would be a good idea.

Nicola will have to design it first. It will of course be dependent on demand. At some ppoint Bob will probably put a vote on the site for a week, we would then take it from there.

Having spoken To Nicola.

We need to bear in mind the following.

1. Min of 20 real expressions of interest. This covers production costs etc.

2. The item would either be World Gold or Sterling Silver.

Hi Al,
it might be an idea to get a ball park figure of the cost for each item,

Nicola thinks the silver Flash would cost about £30, a gold one about £50-60. Both excellent value, when you consider the cost of most of the tat in High St shops, and of course, our piece would be a one off.

Will just the amount ordered be made as a one off, or is it going to be a yes we can do the same again. Will they have a number on the bk etc, u know so it is a one off. I know it's early days etc, so no probs if answers take a while.

Good points Rob,

We will try and make the payment as painless as possible, I know she takes credit cards, we may have to sort a secure online facility for her.

regarding the numbering, I will have to check. As you rightly say its early days.

Stay safe out there Rob

As another idea would she be able to make a poppy brooch? I just love the ones in the British Legion mag but they come with earrings and a necklace. I'd just like a brooch though.

Just a quick update.

The item to be produced by Nicola Palterman will be a Flash. It will be either Silver or Gold, members should be able to choose when ordering. Its hoped that a master copy will be available for the Comrades Weekend, for those attending to have a look. It will in the form of a lapel brooch, with a stud fix.

The aim is to produce an item that anyone with an interest in the regiment can wear.

The detail regarding how we sell it has still to be ironed out. I have spoken to Maj Ellingham and I'm hopeful that the regiment will have an interest.

More details to follow
