Welcome to the March 2026 edition of the RHQ The Royal Welsh Newsletter! March is always a busy time for our regimental family as we celebrate St David’s Day, but this year holds a truly special significance. Exactly two decades ago, on the 1st of March 2006, a new chapter began for the Army in Wales with the formation of The Royal Welsh. As you will read throughout this issue, we have been celebrating this 20th anniversary in true regimental style - honouring 337 years of shared history while looking firmly to the future.

This month’s newsletter captures the breadth of what it means to be part of our community today. From the commemorative service at Llandaff Cathedral to the leek-eating contests and fierce inter-company sports rivalries of the 3rd Battalion.

This issue also brings you updates from the front lines, as the 1st Battalion officially takes the reins for Operation CABRIT 18, once again raising the Welsh Dragon in Estonia. Meanwhile, back at home, we are pleased to see the community coming together through new initiatives like our inaugural "Walk & Talk" event in Wrexham, and the continued, inspiring dedication of our Army Cadets.

As always, we take time to remember and honour those who served before us. Inside, you’ll find touching tributes to our Korean War fallen, details on the upcoming 15th-anniversary commemorations for the end of the Iraq War, and a beautiful stamp initiative celebrating the legacy of our 1961 Fijian Pioneers.

Finally, with our 20th anniversary year officially underway, we are already looking ahead to our massive "Party in the Park" at Cardiff Castle this September. Tickets are completely FREE but going fast, so be sure to secure your spot!
