Inquest Petition reply

I've had an e mail about the inquest petition we signed asking for inquests to be made local for the families of those who have marched on. Its just lots of waffle ending in nothing is going to change!
We ought to now take it one step further (not sure how) and keep at them, let them see that the requested way is the right way.
Any ideas?

Hi Anita,
Same here I got a reply,read it,and again,and read it again.
Typical government,say nothing in a lot of words nobody understands.Think a euphonism is" Baffling one with science" or in this case with words,and still doing nothing.
A full A4 page of waffle,when they could have just replied using the last sentence.

Thank heavens I wasn't the only one to have trouble understanding it! I know I'm on holiday at the mo but my brain doesn't usually seize up in a week ~ I leave that till the summer hols!
You're right though, the bottom line is the same no matter how much waffle goes before it. Fight on!

Unfortunately there is nothing further that can be done. The only undertaking made by the Cabinet Office is that when a petition reaches 100 or more signatures they will respond. Ergo the continuing plans to introduce road pricing tolls despite the number of signatories to that petition.

Sadly we do not have a referendum law in this country, like in, say,
Eire, where so many signatures on a petition creates a legal obligation on the government to hold a national referendum.

Our referendum, of course, is the next general election, but with Nu-Labour increasing its voter base with increasing numbers of central government and local government employees (who are still guaranteed early retirement on FULL index linked pensions!) as well as the every increasing numbers of people dependent upon welfare payments which they believe will stop if Nu-Labour are voted out, any change in government at the next general election is most unlikely.

Looking at the daily papers,the petitioners have won haven't they.
He has been allowed to come ,And have medical treatment.

That's a different petition but you are right, they have given in to public opinion - they could do little else.

However, they have done that when the petition actually has some time to run (closure date is 19 October). The cynic in me tells me that they've done this (the right thing, of course) before the petition expired so that they are able to say that the petition (which was not dealing with this particular individual specifically) had no bearing on the decision that was made in this case!

Hi,

The inquests of repatriated troops was discussed in Parliament Thu 12 Jul 07, with the lobbying coming from the Tories and Lib Dems.

There was, however, no mention of service petitions, but we do seem to have struck a nerve.

I have both my MP/AM on the case of security for our troops at Selly Oak.
Its good to see that these so called MP/AM's are doing they job.
