It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Major John Husein.

John enlisted in Newport, joining 1 SWB in 1963. John Husein began his military journey in the Signals Platoon, quickly rising through the ranks to become a Corporal. His commitment and expertise led to his appointment as a Sergeant instructor at the Signals Wing School of Infantry, Warminster. After the amalgamation, he served as the Officers' Mess Caterer during the challenging 18-month Northern Ireland tour.
Throughout his distinguished career, John Husein held various crucial roles, including Recce Platoon Colour Sergeant in Berlin, Assistant Regimental Signals Officer, Company Sergeant Major of B Company, and ultimately Regimental Sergeant Major of 1 RRW.

In 1984, he was commissioned and took on the responsibilities of Families Officer and later Quartermaster (Technical). His contributions extended to the Bowman Project, a significant initiative introducing Information Technology to the Army.

Upon his promotion to Major, he served in various Quartermaster positions at the Infantry Battle School, 3 RRW, and Castlemartin Training Area, where he eventually retired.
In addition to his service with 1 RRW, John served in the UDR, holding key positions such as CSM of B Company as well as the role of RSM in 8 UDR.

Following retirement, John Husein and his wife Carole embraced an active life, residing in Australia, Cyprus, and West Wales before returning to Newport.

Letters of condolence may be sent to his wife at the following address:
