Hello,

I hope that this post is placed in the correct thread.

My name's Hugh and I'm currently researching my 6th great grandfather: 'Samuel Brelsford' (b) 1777 Ireton Wood, Derbyshire (bap) 06th Apr 1779 Kirk Ireton, Derbyshire (m) 10th Feb 1800 Wirksworth, Derbyshire - Hannah Burgoigne (d) Sep 1854 Kirk Ireton, Derbyshire.

Samuel was a farmer and enlisted with the 7th Reg of Foot (Royal Fusiliers) then transfered to the 23rd Reg of foot (Royal Welch Fusiliers) and again to the 60th Rifles.

During his enlistment, he participated in the following conflicts: Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, Orthez and Waterloo.

Samuel served with the 23rd (Number 2 Coy) at Waterloo, under the command of Captain Thomas Strangeway.

I believe that the 23rd were attached to the 4th Brigade and ended up as part of the 2nd Division, on the extreme right flank of the allied line; blocking the Nivelles Road. The remainder of the 5th Division being ordered to the rear of the position.

I'm endevoring to find out as much as I can about where Samuel was enlisted and if any new records exist that I may not have already seen.

Any assistance or direction in making new discoveries would be very much appreciated.

Regards,

Hugh.
