I noticed this on facebook, I’m custodian of his medals.
Hope he will have a good last service with many regimental comrades present.
”Death of Henry O'Rourke
My name is Rebecca Coleman. I have sent an email to your email address (info@royalwelsh.co.uk) last week and I was given a phone number to call which doesn't appear to be reachable as I have called several times now with no answer. So I am trying through your page here (Royal Welsh) hoping that someone can help me to fulfil my Dad's wishes.
I am contacting you on behalf of my father Henry O'Rourke who was a Royal Welsh Fusilier but joined as a junior drummer back in 1962 until transferring to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps as a staff clerk in 1976. He was discharged from the regular Army in 1983 - Army no: 23916130. Sergeant H O'Rourke.
In 1984 he joined 1 Wessex Rifle Volunteers as HQ Permanent Corporal clerk.
It comes with a heavy heart as my Dad sadly passed away on the 24th of February 2023. He left a letter behind with all his wishes for his funeral!
He has stated he would "love nothing more than the commanding officer of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers to be so kind in allowing a member of the drums platoon to give him a send off with a bugler. "
My Dad will be buried in the Weyhill Cemetery (Andover) along with his wife Joan O'Rourke who was a Royal Welsh housewife and sadly passed away 5 years ago.
The funeral will be taking place on the 20th March 2023 at 11am at St Mary's Church in Andover.
His wishes are that "all drummers attend if possible especially his old comrades."
He has asked if maybe somebody would be able to contact the old comrades association for us and inform them that 'SHAMUS' their old comrade has sadly passed away. He would very much appreciate someone to be able to play 'The last post for him'.
Along with those wishes of my Dad, we as a family are trying to organise some pall beares if this is something that you could do "with the men dressed in their smart green uniforms."
A bugler is an important wish for him, a drummer and possibly a guard of honour.
The passing off our Dad/Grandad was very sudden we are all heartbroken as a very close family and would Love as much to get his wishes granted.
I would be much appreciative if you could contact me on my mobile phone:
No: 07444335868 (tel:07444335868)
I hope you can help me or give me some guidance on what to do or where to go.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards. Rebecca Cleman.
Hope he will have a good last service with many regimental comrades present.
