Army bands to guard bases,(as if they never have before- What about Ireland)
24 bands in the Corps of Army Music will do a 3 month rotation.
One bandsman,says,"everyone is absolutely furious,they will be sending cooks and nurses next"? Wonder what band he was in?
Might be possible after 14,560 quit last year.
Wonder if the will take a sixty year old ex-motorway driver,at least I could get the dignatries away at 160 miles an hour plus.

Dont you just love the reply from that esteemed bandsman,doesnt he know the cooks and nurses are all in iraq and afghanistan anyway,they should send the bands of the Coldsrteam guards and the Rifles to do the chore,seeing as they have no instruments having had them confiscated in Austrailia for non payment of bills:tongue:

When we where in L/Derry in 70s we overheard one of the cooks telling a bird in the flash and hackle he had killed a few people, So one of the lads jumped in with yeah he poisoned them. :laugh:

Yes in Gorazde the cooks there worked under very harsh conditions throughout the tour preparing meals on wood fires under constant threat of fire whilst other where under cover minimal movement policy, and when the call came to tab up country the cooks donned their Bergen’s and tabbed with the rest,

So yer solider first comes to mind too!

Their actions where deservedly recognised and honours bestowed on certain individuals



I would also like to think if a unit was really stretched that the band that has all ways been part of a unit would step in!

When I was in the band we were on almost permanent guard duty in Ireland, when the Battalion went on exercise we went too and provided medical support, we helped the Medical Centre out when they were stretched. Many Bands were deployed on Gulf 1 (we got ready to go and were stood down a few days before we went), The Cheshires took their Band with them to Yugoslavia. There are many other incidents that I am sure other ex band forum members can mention.

So under the old system yes the band used to support the Battalions so I have absoulutely no idea what this individual is talking about. The only bands that NEVER used to do anything other than music were certain staff bands and the House Hold Div.

Maybe under the Corps of Army Music they have all adopted this attitude ours was always we did whatever needed to be done!
