Death of Collin Albert Evans 70

It is with great sadness that I write to say Collin Albert Evans (70) passed away this morning (18 February 2019) at his sons (Stuart) home in Derby with his family in attendance.

A very sad day. Bumped into Colin, Mair and kids in a restaurant near Brecon while driving from Hartlepool to Porthcawl, many years ago. Then he lost Mair and eventually met somebody new and last saw him at League of Friends do in Chester when he looked so good I didn’t recognise him. He was a good friend in Hong Kong, I hope he didn’t suffer. Goodbye and Rest in Peace, old pal.

One of the Battalion’s real characters, Colin will be remembered for his old fashioned values, good humour and generosity of spirit.

We were totally overwhelmed by the turnout and the distance some people had travelled, the Funeral Director informed me there was in the region of 180 people, a true sign of how popular and liked Dad was.

Although it was a truly sad occasion, I think he would have approved of the Military Service carried out by the Comrades Association, including the Bugler playing Last Post. Those that knew Dad will be aware of his love for singing, especially his favourite song "If I could see the Rhondda", so it seemed only fitting that we played it on a screen at the wake, which was an emotional reminder of all the times he sang it at family gatherings. We also wish to thank those that kindly donated to our chosen charity, Pancreatic Cancer UK. The total raised on the day was £400, your generosity is greatly appreciated.

The night ended with the Morlais Male Choir singing some favourites, which provided a spectacular end to a very emotional day. Dad would have loved it!

You and Ceri did everything your dad would of liked and would of been proud of you both, I was so privileged to of been his friend and he always looked out for me, I think my mam told him to, I'm just glad he didn't tell her everything I got up to in my early days in the Regiment,
he knew what to and what not to tell her.
He will be missed by all our family and others that knew him in Maerdy.
