I received an e-mail just now from Matthew Donovan, informing me that his father, our friend Richard Brian "Don" Donovan, Jungle1810, passed away peacefully on Monday 6th August.

My thoughts are with his family, May he rest in peace.

Very sad news, "Don" was one of our biggest supporters from the early days. Lots of his contributions in the sites archive. A very good soldier as well, made Sgt in two years, a stalwart of D Coy 2 RWF during the Malaya Emergency.

RIP Don.

Very sad day Don was a huge personality.

Visited his man cave in Bridgend a number of times. He had a HUGE amount of RWF history in books, maps, photographs and other regimental memorabilia which might now be lost?

... which might now be lost?

I have asked Matthew to donate the RWF collection to the Museum.

John

Update: contact has been established between Matthew and both the Regimental Museum and the RWF archives at Wrexham Museum.

Years ago, Don and I exchanged some emails. His had the auto-sig "Honorable Secretary", which caused me to nickname him "Hon-Don". It was our joke.
RBD was a force... of nature, to be reckoned with and of great fun.

As Al mentioned. in the original forum years when we operated a dinky chat-room and had regular Sunday night get-togethers, Don and his old mate Taffy Meredith would regale us with hilarious stories of days gone by and their service antics. Some seriously funny and some seriously disturbing but always Don had an in-depth knowledge of all things RWF.
He was a mine of info, with a very impressive grasp of internet research for someone of his years.

I shall miss him.

With sincere and deepest condolences to the family, I wish you strength and love at this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Old friend. Show them how it's done <3
