Just wondering whether this carried on after I left in 1979,when we went to Lemgo my self and several others were picked to go on attachment to the German army I think it was for a week I remember Spud Murphy came with us and I think Eric Roe as well, after him memory gets a bit fuzzy as to the others in return members of the German army went to Lemgo did this carry on for The remaining years in Lemgo.

Still happening in the early 80s as part of a German language course, one week with the Panzer Grenadiers [Armoured Mounted Infantry] then one week with the Panzerabwehr Battalions [Anti -tank guns mounted on tracked, armoured vehicles].

You know the Germans, as long as they have their big boots on and have a tank to polish they are "as happy as Larry", bit like with a hot brew in pouring rain.

When I was with the Grenadiers they gave me a big parka, a pair of goggles and head phones; stuck me on top one of their armoured monstrosities and said "du bist der Furher" and had me rocketing around the countyside pretending I was the Commander, I wasnt; the Driver was "the Man", used hilfe, recht und links a lot which probably fell on deaf ears.

I had never had any involvement with armour before this.

What I remember was they took a liking to our KF shirts and we exchanged them with their shirts it got to the stage that when we went to Ireland The locals must have thought the Germans had finally invaded 36 years later then anticipated

Interesting to see that c company had reformed by 1981 when I left in 79 they were disbanding them and putting the blokes into different companies

That was the case Keith upto 1979 on our tour in Londonderry 78/79 we were told that C Company was being disbanded on our return to Lemgo and blokes were being asked what companies they wanted to go to
