View Full Version : Help Please - Stanley Haycocks WW2
just wondering if there is anyone who can help , i am trying to get a bit more information about an uncle .......... army no 4201951 rank cpl...name haycocks ,stanley.....4th bn the royal welch fusiliers,,,he is buried at the uden war cematery ..he died on 14/10/44..
Hi Rich,
Very little in Red Dragon I'm afraid. Leading up to his death the the chronology is:
6th Oct The Bn moved to Wintelre for the 3rd time.
7th Oct Taken by transport to Bemmel 3 miles north of Nijmegen, and took over positions at Baal. The Bn was heavily shelled during this period until the 17th Oct when the Bn was relieved. Red Dragon mentions that the casualties were negligible!!
Two theorys, firstly he was injured at an earlier action before the dates above, and died of his wound at a field hospital. The Bn had had 80 men killed or wounded in a previous action which commenced on the 19th Sept during Bn attacks on Wintelre. Its possible injuries occured here
Or he was killed during that period 7th -17th October, but because the casualties were light in comparison to the previous actions it was never really flagged up.
Sorry I can't be more precise. You must apply for his service record.
Good Luck
thanks for the info ,at least i know a bit more than i did before, will try and get his record...once more thanks
