my grandfather Evan John Francis was pensioned out of the Welch Fusiliers due to diabetes in 1943. I never knew my granddad and am trying to trace my family tree.
Any informartion would be gratefully received as my grandma has since died and I cannot get information from her ... thank you in advance

If he was born in 1912 he would have been a young lad at the outbreak of WW1.
Good news is, with a bit more info you will be able to apply for his service papers Smile

Hi Julie,
You can apply to the MOD to have a copy of his Army Service Record. You will need his date of birth at least, and possibly his Army Number. Do you know if he was ever a member of the comrades association? If so its possible they may have his number, within their records
Have a loook at the link below:

Problem is the only thing we know for sure is served in the RWF and born in 1912.
Richard
Hi Julie,
Before you apply for his record, you may have to do a little bit of groundwork, to establish his date of birth.
I have looked through the births, marriages and deaths. I have found a John D Francis born 1912 in Newport. He is the nearest match on the info you have provided. His mothers maiden name was Smith. Does this ring any bells?
