http://rwf-forum.co.uk/vBulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=4098&stc=1How can I find out if Cpl J Wood 4206696 was one of the 2 fusiliers captured on the above date mentioned in the RWF war diary and German diary for that date
Have you tried to find if he gave any POW questuionnaire after his liberation? I have the medals of a man who probably was captured in this incident, but difficult to know for sure.

I'm sure Swiper would know, Lars. He does not visit the Forum very often but when I get home I'll try to contact him for you.
John
I will check the missing files in the morning….haven't we mentioned "Wood" before?

Your correct when I was looking for Fusilier Nimmon they were both in Stallag 11b,why I was asking who got captured was in a way to confirm in my mind it was them mentioned in the diary.
According to the Missing list 3 x men were taken prisoner in that action from D Coy 7RWF at Westelbeer:
14584004 Fus Podmore L
3455099 Fus Austin CC
14629159 Fus Curtis
As mentioned, three others were killed. Whitehead, Francis and Fairclough.

My mans name is Isaac, and has a slightly later date on his questionnaire - 25/9. Could be either 4th or 6th btn also.
Thanks for posting the missing list!

Thanks for your informative and interesting reply and yes it appears my father was reported missing 25sept1944 and he was in the 6th.I was just wondering what he went through at the time of capture.Once again .Many thanks.
Ok i'm confused now. Have you got the details of your fathers capture? Remind me who your father was?

I'll see if I can find him Lars, a few from the 6th taken on that day.
According to earlier posts it's 4206696 J Wood. If he was captured on the 25th, and belonged to the 6th RWF as previously stated then I think it's probable that G Isaac was 6th aswell.

This is pretty important to Speed, I would imagine. Two witness statements of how his father was captured, including one from his Platoon Sgt who tasked him to recover a wounded man! Literally an eyewitness report.

Nice to see those Missing Men files coming in handy-They really are the forgotten files when researchers are looking for an individual that was killed or captured. Sometimes they can deliver pure gold.

Swiper transcribed the war diary on to WW2Talk which is where the image of the war diary entries come from.
If you need any further assistance with files etc from the National Archives give me a shout. I can look up PoW Lib Reports etc.
Cheers
Andy
