Hello folks. I would be grateful if any members can help me trace past Goat Majors as far as is possible. i have from 1984 covered but i am wondering if there are any of you boys can help me with the Goat Majors that served before that period. The current Goat Major is looking to insert their names on something he can put in the mess. Any info would be appreciated men.Any pics floating round would be great. We have a fair few pics which we will be looking to post on here at some stage. Cheers boys. Paul 83

Hi Paul,
I can remember several, one in Bulford 1960's Davies 80 whose nickname was Cabbage I think he was from Bangor or Caernarvon,Cpl Don Pugh ex Welsh Guards was the Goat major in Honiton late 1960 and Percy Broad from Oct 1970 did a long stint and on leaving the 1st Bn he joined the UDR and became a Major.
In the mid 1970's L\Cpl MPR Ball 1975 followed by Cpl Barrow 1976, Fus Lloyd 32 1978/9.
The above dates may not be accurate but may be of help.
Regards,
Joe.

Hello,
I also believe the Goat Major for the first when they went to the Dale prior to sailing for Jamaica was Bodinaar.

In the famous goat major oil painting (hung in the officers' mess?) was that goat major named 'Tritton' and an ancestor of (insert current rank here .......) I.G. Tritton, ex pl comd 4 pl, adjt, oC 'A' etc etc etc???
I know someone in the painting is related, sure it's the Goat major himself.

Re: 1st Bn Goat Headplate - date unknown
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[the date shown on the head piece does not exist. it was presented to the Bn by George the 5th which is depicted in the numeral G, which is not a roman numeral. if you date the peice without the G ie MDCCCXII it actually dates back to George the 4th. 1820 but the date without the G is 1812. confused so am I. so was the silver from 1820 and melted down by george the 5th silversmiths and presented during his time. what do you say. but the date without the G is definately 1812.
come on you little DAI detectives. work it out.
you will see a picture of the head piece on the drums picture gallery.

There is a picture of L/c Bodinnar with the Goat that was brought over to Jamaica from
CHESTER "the DALE".I was informed by someone that he passed away in Canada last year. You will find the picture on the 50s Gallery.L/c Lightfoot took over from him and was in charge of the goat for the Queens visit Garden Party at the Govenors House on .the 26 th NOV 1953.I cant remember if he was in charge for the power conference in Bermuda.
Hi 83
as you know I was one to, Lemgo days again can't remember much, anyway I'd like to thank Ziggy for coming to the rescue and looking after bill, because I know how frightened of that mad goat he was. When someone shows me how to up load photos onto the forum I've got a few, most people would of forgot about "Wilbur" the dark brown one we recruited in York town for the 200th anniversary of Independence day parade got some good photos of that,

Hi 83
I was the "Regimental Goat" on the SS Uganda going down to the Falklands, I can't remember who the Goat Major was on that St David's Day, Do I qualify? You can blame RSM/Capt Des Lewis for that "Stint", (not a lot of people know that1).
Best Regards and good luck in your research

Rik
Was he the Goat Major on the Uganda at that time?
BTB
hi ben , the goat major on the uganda ended up being Frank Harry , You are right that wadey was the goat major at the time but he was on rear party looking after the goat.
i joined in warminster and the Ken barrow was the goat Major then , after him was Pete Wadey [ Somtimes Rib] Evans [ Le Blade] 82 was the berlin Goaty , Mac [ Present D/M] was brawdy / chepstow.
A few others might be in there but i cant remember [old age ]
Cheers

Guvs,
Have you got pictures of the Pioneers, Band and Drums and Goat at Yorktown (1982)as that picture will need to go in the book?
Hingey
Hi .We had two goat majors in Malaya .The first one was L/cpl.Shaun,sent home from Port Dickson in 54 I think with T.B.The next was Fus,Stevenson, now this is the lad that was there when the mascot broke its leg.Surely someone else will know more. The R.S.M.was going to shoot him if the goat was put down.Minden 3
