Someone posed the question on fb enquiring as to why the beret changed to khaki whilst the other Fusilier regiments kept the dark navy blue. Is there a definate answer to that question or was it merly a paper exercise involving perhaps a job lot of Khaki Berets, a BOGOF and a lucky dip as to who would wear them?

I am aware of incurring the wrath of members of this site but here goes. Could it be that although the soldiers are known as Fusiliers the Royal Welsh are not a Regiment of Fusiliers?

Vic Hughes has cleared it up. Apparently, all infantry regiments were going to change to Khaki but the RRF decided to stay with the navy blue.

Bloody RRF! I worked with the CO of the RRF in HQ 3 Armd Div in Koerbekke, before he went to the Gulf as their CO, not impressed!

Vic Hughes is quite correct however don't fret, prior to WW2 all infantry regts wore khaki berets. Navy berets, as worn by the RN, came in during WW2 when the Army ran out of khaki berets and the RN had plenty spare! Anyway if you look at pre WW2 photos and film footage of RWF personnel wearing berets you will see they are khaki berets.
