This post is primarily for Jungle Don(Bri Donovan).

Bri, I was looking through a random box in the museum archive today and found the following picture, of No 3 Commando, taken at the crossing of the River Aller in April 1945. No names on the picture, just the location/unit detail.

The photo came from the family of Maj KC Jones RWF. I have found that officer mentioned in RWFRR as a Captain serving with 1RWF in the West Indies in the early 1950's, with D Company. Then later in Dusseldorf.

The Commando Forum reckon he joined No 3 Commando as a 2nd Lt in Dec 1944, he was promoted from the ranks, possibly from the RA. I think he is the guy crouching to the left of the Swastika.

Brian, did you know him? and can you identify him please? This will assist the Commando Forum as they put names to faces. I think this is his troop.

He finished his time as a Cadet Officer and passed away in 1972.

Hello Al,
I remember exchanging e mails and "talking " to "Casey" Jones about our time in the west indies. I am unable to positively identify him on the photo
you published. I do have a retentive memory but it was such a long time ago. I also believe I met him at "Strasser's" funeral. I was in the company of Sgt Len Watts from Porthcawl and Len and I went over to him as Len was not sure who he was, but it turned out that Len and "Casey" knew each other well. We had a nice chat about old times. Sorry but that's it in a nut shell. A belated greeting for the new year to you and yours.
Regards Don

Hello Al,
I am sorry to be late in answering the thread on "Casey" Jones. One of my P C's has a virus and I am waiting for my son to sort it out.I appreciate the thread on "Casey" and thank you for thinking about us old comrades from our Jamaican period. I have just heard from Jones 33 who has just returned from Malaya. He informs me that he did manage to get photos of the headstones of men k.i.a. in Malaya.I am in a quandary at the moment as to how to get them over to you. I may have to use snail mail. Right now it is a matter of conjecture until I know more about how long it will be before my other P C is fixed.
Many thanks again Don

Cheers Don,

Based on what you told me, about meeting KC at Strasser's funeral, we must be talking about a different man, as the Commando KC died in 1972.

Many Thanks

Al

Hello Al,
You are right. But there was another capt J A Jones in H Q Company.this is according to the R W F bible (Lt Gen J Riley D S O's version,) what a mighty tome. I probably got my wires crossed.
Regards Don.
