My father was in this Battalion from the above time, and I wondered whether it would be possible to find out what company he was in. I know it's along shot, and wish I'd done this years ago.

We still have a Battalion photo and a great many photos of himself and his mates, which we intend to take to Caernavon Castle in the New Year.

Full name. James Thomas Oldham. Service number; 14697083.

I have a copy of the booklet, The Seventh. A territorial Battalion. 1908-1946, and
pp 200-278 of the book The Red Dragon The Story of the Royal Welch Fusiliers 1919-1945, and, although very informative, they do not provide the information I am after.

Many thanks,

Jim.

Welcome Jim, perhaps the photos offer some clues. Could you post some? are any of them named?

No names unfortunately.

I will try to get the battalion photo scanned at the castle in the New Year.

I have found out, from some of his mates that he did basic training with, that he was involved in operation Woody Woodpecker after the war. This involved sending wood back to the UK.

Thanks,

Jim.

A Battalion photo has been scanned by Shirley, at the Castle, and E mailed to the RWF forum.

We have some other photos, which we can copy and post if needed.

Thanks,

Jim.

Have you applied for his service record?

Probably a bit late now but here's the battalion war diary refs at Kew. It's unlikely you'll find out his company unless you find another vet that served with him. You occasionally get a detailed nominal roll in unit war diaries amongst the appendices but they are quite rare. Like everything with these war diaries though...You never know what you'll get until you look :)

I've also had a look through the missing lists, in case he was mentioned as a witness…no joy.
