Find information about the Veterans Agency

The Veterans Agency (VA) (previously the War Pensions Agency) is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). It is the point of contact within the MoD for providing information and advice on issues of concern to veterans and their families.

From 06/04/05 the VA also administers the new Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS). For serving HM Forces personnel this replaces the War Pensions scheme for injuries or health problems whose cause arises on or after 06/04/05 (causes prior to then remain under the War Pension scheme).

Death in service (or after leaving the Forces, if the cause was due to service and arose on or after 6/4/05) dependants (including partners) will be covered by the AFCS. War Widow(er)s Pensions will continue where the cause of the death arose prior to 06/04/05.

The Agency administers these schemes and provides welfare support to War Pensioners and War Widow(er)s. It is also responsible for the management of the Ilford Park Polish home.

Michelle my missus has just started to work for them and is currently on her course, she could help in the future.

They also have a office in the same building as the Careers Office in Cardiff.

What does the WPWS do?
The War Pensioners' Welfare Service (WPWS) gives advice, guidance and practical help to war disablement pensioners and war widows/widowers.

You are entitled to help if you are currently receiving a war pension or if at any time in the past you have received a gratuity for war disablement. The WPWS also provides help to people who are in the process of claiming a war disablement or war widow's/widower's pension. The WPWS will try to help with any kind of welfare problem. It does not have to be directly linked to war disablement or to service in H.M.Forces.

Each area of the country is covered by a WPWS Welfare Manager who is responsible for providing help to war pensioners and war widows/widowers in the locality. Each Manager is assisted by support staff as well as a network of volunteer visitors. The WPWS work closely with all the main ex-service organisations and through them, can provide a wide range of advice and help.
