I have a WWII Veteran in my Branch and would like some information on him as he's unsure what medals he's entitled to (he is now age 89)

146192 WALTER HENRY ROBERT JONES

He was also known as Huw Jones. He was with 4 RWF but was demobbed in 1946 with the Duke of Cornwalls Light Infantry

He also done time in the Home Guard before he was called up but didn't receive the Home Defence Medal

Any information would be gratefully received

Get him or help him to apply for a copy of his service records from the MoD. They are free to the actual veteran and will list all of his overseas postings amongst over things.

Cheers

Thanks Drew. The problem he has is he served in the Home Guard from 1940 to 1943, he was only 15 years old and lied about his age to get in. He was then called up aged 18 years in 1943. The Records Office has no details of him serving in the Home Guard mainly because they never registered anyone under the age of 18 years, therefore, they won't give him the Home Defence Medal. I don't suppose anyone has any ideas a to get around this. Huw himself doesn't have any paperwork left to prove he served in the Home Guard

Your help is appreciated

Have you tried applying to Manning and Records in Glasgow? There's a separate department for the Home Guard if I remember correctly. That aside if he was on the Kings payroll there should be a set of army service records with the MoD for him.

The application process is fairly simple and the forms are downloadable. Failing that give them a ring at Glasgow, they are very helpful and I've always had the impression they are serving soldiers.
