I am trying to find out information about where my father Albert, he served during the 1939-45 war. He died in 1966 when I was 7 years old. I know from my mum that he went over on the D- day landings and went as far as Belgium and was posted to Burma at the end of the war. Unfortunately I don't have his army number but we have an unusual sir name which might make things a little easier.
He came from a small village called Northop in Flintshire N. Wales.
I would be greatful for any information.

Cheers Paul Lovelock.

Researching WW2 Vets is extremely difficult. Its actually easier to research the great war at the moment.

I have looked at the book called The Red Dragon, which covers the RWF during WW2, and it does not make any mention of your father. This is not unusual.

Your fathers service record will be held by the MOD. Although it helps to have his service number, you have an unusual name, and you know his regiment, so you might strike lucky.

You can find out more by visiting the link below:

The MOD charge about £35 for obtaining the record, and you may have to wait for quite a few months.

Keep us posted, and good luck
