I am trying if possible to find out more information about Major C. J. L. Lewis. He was 2ic with 4/RWF until sept 43 and then became 2ic with 2/RWF. He was gazetted major in sept 42.

He is listed in Red Dragon, but is only known by his initials and it would be good to find out his first name or an other details about him. I ask as I have his SD tunic dating from WWII.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

In 1937 he was a Capt with a seniority date 15/09/1937. Serving with the 1st Bn.

Intriguingly in 1927. A Lt CJL Lewis is serving with the Cheshire Regiment. I suspect that will also be your man. If you match the career progression of Maj Lewis against Hugh Stockwell RWF who joined in 1923, it fits. Bearing in mind that at the onset of war Stockwell's career raced away.

Lt Seniority Date: 03/09/1927

Looks like he finished in 1955 and it gives you his service number:

3180
