Aw c'mon - shop across the road from the gate in Lemgo was apple strudel with tons of cream - was it real cream? Came from a machine - tasted great!

Then there was Belize ...... nope - don't remember any food from Belize!

Lemgo - Berlin? Cardboard chips - from a MACHINE sometimes - PUKE and man had they never heard of VINEGAR!!! a chip is just a fried spud until you put vinegar on it fer Chrissakes!!!

No class, no class at all!

But then there were the schnell imbisses - dirty great bratty with a dollop of mustard - Oh Yeah!

Carl - "Box of Herf" = "Yellow briefcase" ..... Ahhhhh - memories! Get yer terminology right willya!

OK I've trawled my hard drive and no 'real good' food comes to mind in all my travels .... let's just recap where those travels were...

Hmmmm GB (Salisbury Plain bar Ternhill - no culinary surprises there then!)

N. Ireland - a lot! Army food - but I was attached to the UDR for 2 years and actually lived in a hard loyalsit estate in Portadown for a while with a nice young lady. So - Army food!

Germany - covered - plus spuds and pork!

That's about it folks - pretty sad.

But then I remember a trip to USA - Tacoma (near Seattle) - I went into a fast food/burger joint - not McDonalds or Burger King or anything. They had all these toppings you could plonk on stuff so I ordered a hot dog and thought "RIGHT - let's go for it"

"Ill have the blue cheese, the chili relish, mayo ..... er, salad and ...."

Some bird next to me says "Hey man - try the onion salsa" (or whatever)

So I says "Yeah - some of that and .... "

So she's egging me on and eventually the guy behind the counter says "HEY - leave the guy alone willya"

She says "NO WAY man - I wanna see this guy eat this stuff!"

God bless America!

Over here that lady would just think 'Gawd - look at this weird twot - is HE gonna get heartburn or what!"

Try the bratwursts from Lidl's they're exactly the same. Grill and serve with tomato ketchup sprinkled with a little paprika settle down in front of the TV with a chilled stubby and a good game of rugby on the box and dream of times past!

Hingey
p.s. that's what I will be doing tonight watching the Cardiff Blues game on BB2W

From a long time ago on exercise with Delta's: walking around the streets of Odense munching on a danish sausage with a mixture of mustard and tomato ketchup relish - outstanding!

From last year: sitting on a park bench at Fisherman's Wharf munching on a red delicious apple the size of a (tesco) grapefruit and sharing a strawberry the size of a (tesco) red delicious apple - awesome!

The downstairs cafe in the Grand Hotel in E Berlin - before the wall came down and we had 9 times the spending power - tea, crustless sandwiches and cakes - as posh as the Ritz. Waiting staff wore tops and tails and your bill came on a plate under a tiny top hat!

Had a bad experience at the very VERY posh restaurant upstairs there once - they charged WEST marks there!!!

Then that posh restaurant at the top of a high building - can't remeber it's name - just order whatever costs most then tip the waitress a weeks wages!

Also the revolving restaurant - the TV Tower one - food not bad - view brilliant! They'd serve you as your table passed the counter, when busy they would only allow one lap and then you'd be hurried out!

Dai the pictures you posted a while ago where excellent, regards the fish in Bills Bar, I had been off fish for years, until I tried one in Bills & that set me liking it again. Just had brain storm what the hell was the pub opposite the one with Delicious Schnitzel with mushroom sauce.

Wedding cake !! I was returning to Lemgo, having just attended my sisters wedding, she gave me a huge slab of wedding cake to bring back for the boys.
Becket (Slanger) I wonder what he's up to now? was on the same flight, anyway we got stuck in some god forsaken airport from Sunday midday thru until the Monday, we had no d/marks at all, so we used a 5p piece in place of a mark to make a phone call & CSM Whalley 15 (Whalley teabag) sent us a lift, we demolished the cake!! sorry boys.
