It is with great sorrow that I have to tell you that Mick passed away last night. He had been suffering from emphysema for some time and he died through respiratory failure.
Mick was an inspiration to me. I admired all those wonderful qualities that made him the special person that he was. He had intelligence, wit, charm and a caring heart that made him a great friend.
We had some great times together in Honiton and particularly in Hong Kong with the Royal Welch and a secondary tour of Hong Kong with the Royal Hampshires. Mick left the Army after that and became a fireman in Oxford.
I counted him among my closest friends and I will miss him greatly. I will always be thankful that I had the opportunity to get to know him better and to call him a friend. I will cherish his memory for years to come.
The poet Yeats once wrote "Count where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory is I had such friends."
