Folks,
Just spotted this item on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Farewell-to-Flanders-Unpublished-account-of-1st-Royal-Welch-Fusiliers-May-1940-/390594559317?pt=Non_Fiction&hash=item5af13ffd55 3 days left.

Seems to be a 111 -page account covering service in May 1940 by J.L.King, Signals Oficer 1st RWF. Thought I'd flag it up.

Thanks, Clive. It will be of interest to the Museum, so I've forwarded the information to Gen Riley.

Hopefully if the regiment moves quickly, the seller might be persuaded to withdraw it and sell direct. Shame if it goes elsewhere.

Good luck to the Regiment in obtaining this item they are the only people who it should go to in my opinion.

I am pleased to report that General Riley has taken the matter in hand and will do his utmost to secure the document for the Regiment.

Fingers crossed then, who knows there may even be something in it that will help us with the Anthony Corkhill thread.

I have aways thought that things relating to any Regiment should go to that regiment and not into private hands never to be seen by anyone except the owner.

Cheers

Time left:
5h 24m 41s (19 May, 2013 16:38:36 BST)

Current bid:
£36.52

The seller obviously isnt going to withdraw it and sell direct to the Regiment else it would not be still up for bids.

I've whacked in a bid in using a snipe tool. But I see there are two main bidders, so I suspect it might go for a tidy sum.

Agreed most bids tend to go in during the last three or four minuits or later so we will know in about24 mins.

Dammit mate how unlucky can you get, i just hope whoever got it really apreciates the thing cos i still say these things should not be sold untill offered to the regiment they relate to.

Is there a means of contacting the buyer via the seller, so that maybe at least a xerox could be obtained for the Museum?

I think that would depend on the cooperation of the seller.

Gen Riley was one of the bidders. He may even have become the buyer, but not having heard from him after the auction closed I really have no idea. It may be a bad sign.

General Riley has asked me to inform you gentlemen that "if anyone wants a copy of 'Farewell to Flanders' then I am quite willing to supply one for a modest fee - say £15. I will keep the original and put copies in the Museum's archive."

Any takers, let me know.

Has anyone read a copy of this account yet? Interested to know what it covered and how detailed it was. Good to hear that it was Jon who bought it and if it is a good read I'll ask him next time I see him.

Hi all, I'm new to the forum but I have been reading a certain thread on and off for a fair while. Anyway my reason for joining is to try and get a copy of the above account. Can you contact me regarding payment details etc. I can do Paypal, cheq, CC whatever is easiest. Many thanks Andy...................Ps Does anyone know why I can't do a new line on my PC with this forum?
