Very sad to hear this Tony. Mac was my CSM in the Falklands with Alphas, he was the ideal man for that posting. Old school, but not over the top. I and a few Alpha's boys had great pleasure in having a beer with him at the LOF many years later, he was genuinely chuffed that we'd made it into the mess, against all odds! Deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

‘Mac’ and I served together in the Signals Platoon in Minden and Honiton. He was the consummate professional, diligent and hard working. He also had a wicked sense of humour, which you could always tell was near the surface by the tiniest of grins and a glint in his eye.

My life is richer for having known him. His demise is a great loss to me and to our entire community. His family has every right to be proud of him, not only for his service to his country, but as a Royal Welchman extraordinaire.

Our heartfelt condolences are with Sharyn, Darryl, Nicola and Donna. I cannot begin to imagine the pain they are feeling, but the thoughts and prayers of the whole forum are with them at this most difficult time.”

As Shakespeare said in Hamlet, “I shall not look upon his like again.”

Mac was my Plt Sgt in Londonderry 86 with Charlie Company. What a true professional he was. He was also one of the smartest people I knew, even in combats.

On behalf of Shrewsbury and District Branch RWCA, condolences are extended to Sharyn and family on their loss of Mac, Mac was a great guy and a good friend, he was a very good Royal Welchman which brought fame to the Regiment by being one of the first Royal Welchman to be awarded with GOC Commendation for Devotian to Duty on our 1st NI Tour in Londonderry. Mac was a section commander in the RECCE Platoon and whilst on patrol in his Ferret Scout car they came across an incident where a murder had been committed and if my memory serves me right he and his section gave chase and caught the gunman.A very good soldier and proud Royal Welchman. RIP mate.

Oh Dear, another sad chapter in the history books of the RWF.

The previous messages posted on this thread have identified what a professional Mac was. He was also a good friend and my last association with him was when we served together in Shirley, Solihull in the early 90's - he was WOIC Cadet Trg Team and I was Chief Clerk 5 RRF - we were both members of the local Royal British Legion. Sharryn also managed one of the local Shoe Shops and they both had an abundance of friends in the Town.

He made his mark in Shirley when he assumed the duties of Parade Marshal each successsive Remembrance Day - they still refer to him as the "Mini Guardsman" and were full admiration for him when he impressed them with his Military Skills when on parade. Indeed, those who I have informed of the sad news have asked me to convey their condolences - they range from the Legion Members, barbers Shop, Pubs and Traders in Shirley.

Deepest condolences to Sharryn and family from myself, Verna and family plus members of the London Branch RWFCA.

It's also worthy of note that in addition to his GOC's NI Commendation, Mac was a recipient of the Silver Jubilee Medal in Tidworth 1977.

As Al Poole said Mac was my CSM in Tern Hill and the Falklands and I got on very well with him. One of the smartest, well turned out soldiers I ever met and a very fair man.

RIP and condolences to his family
