I know that William joined the regiment In 1947 as a boy soldier. He was awarded the 1953 coronation medal and Efficiency Medal and clasp. He was also awarded the British Empire Medal in 1967.

I would guess he left the Territorials in the early 70's.

Did any of the forum members serve with William? Or know if any pictures of him exist?

TIA

Richard

Dear Richard,
From Regimental Records Vol VI, I note that CSgt W Roberts BEM appears on the 4 (TA) RWF Battalion Staff List 1960-1966. He is listed as been a member of the Pioneer Section. This I can confirm by George Collins who served with him, George inform me that William was a native of Llay and worked as a miner. William has however passed on some years back, as George was the Drum Major at that time and William was the Pioneer Sgt, there is very likely photos of him on parade, George will seek and fined and report back.

Sincere thanks Glyn

I have found out a little more, in that he died age 61 on the 29th April (but I don't know which year) his wife Linda died about five years ago and they had no children. Also, as you say, he had worked as a collier at Llay Main, Gresford and Bersham.

Thanks again for your time

Richard
