I have received the followinig e-mail from Alan's son:

Hello,

I am trying to find out some information for the family regarding my father who sadly isn't going to be with us much longer.

His sister was asking would it be possible for his coffin to be flag draped as he had served with the RWF in cyprus in the 50's and wether it would be possible for a bugler to be arranged for the funeral as was the case for my Great uncle Harry Davies (ex RWF RSM so i'm told).

Our family are from the Forest of Dean in gloucestershire.

Also could you put word around your forum to inform any of his old comrades of the sad ilness.

My fathers name is Alan Hughes and all I know of his service carreer was that he had served for 7 years of a 22 year contract before being invalided out, and that he had served in cyprus with a lot of conscription comrades. He has in the past gone to reunions with his old platoon mates but sadly I have no details to contact them.

I Believe his service number was 23375643 although not sure as it's the best I can make it out from his old boot brush with his number stamped on it.

Thank you in advance for any help/advice you can give

Lofty,
Firstly thank you for putting the post up for me.
I have taken your advice and joined the forum to see if anyone knew/remembered my father from his time with the regiment.
It was quite funny that it was a lofty who placed the message as I believe my fathers nickname was "lofty" while serving and he was best known by the name as a later civilian being a tall strong man, albeit a gentle giant.
i would appreciate hearing from anyone who knew my father and any stories they have of their exploits.
Regards,

Rich Hughes.
