Help On The Photo Gallery

The Gallery now has more than 1000 photos stored, and this will no doubt become a valuable research tool in years to come. The photos bridge the years before the Great War till the present day, and are of interest to everyone.

Can we make a plea for all our members to make time to trawl through the gallery, on a regular basis and add additional detail....full names, locations, stories behind the pictures(nothing derrogatory or libelous please). Anything that enhances the value of the photo to the casual viewer.

Just use the "Quick Reply" text box below each photo to achieve this. It doesn't matter if you did'nt post the original picture, aslong as your information is accurate.

As an example of the importance of adding detail to pictures: A photo of The Ass Pnr Platoon 1RWF in Strabane has just been published, it now appears that this was perhaps the last picture of best mates Cpl Dave Smith and Fred Dargie together. Dave was killed by a booby trap shortly after and of course Fred passed away earlier this year. This is just one example.

If this can be achieved over the next few weeks and months, it will certainly be a valuable contribution that Royal Welch Forum members can make to ensuring that the names and faces of Royal Welchmen are remembered in the future.

Thanks to Steve Carey, Paul9085 and a few others who have assisted in naming individuals. I was hoping for a better response. All you have to do is click on the Post Reply button, then type in who you think is shown on the picture. Also adding any other relevant info. The Forum team will do the rest to update the pictures. If you can find time to do one or two each, it will make all the difference.

In a few years time, many of the names and faces will be lost.

Al, I tried several times today to name Will 59 in one of the old black and white pictures but it wouldnt save my messagein the quick reply form. I'll try again and let you know how I get off!!

Thanks Dai, Dutch was having the same problem. Your replies are being sent into our admin area for moderation, I then go into the Admin area and upload those posts to the Gallery(similar to what happens with the photos). Yours and Dutch's additional info has now been added.

I will ask Bob if he can look at the controls and enable all members to post messages directly to the Gallery. If there are any problems, we can always revert back.

The Phots will continue to be moderated

Are your photos JPG's
Are they maybe too big?
Do you get an error message when uploading?

open image
resize/skew
take pic to 40 40
click ok
save as

Yep same here i have some pics that i wish to put on the forum but when i go to up load them it states that the pictures are too big, does anyone know how i can rectify this problem.

Apparently there is softwear that allows you to reduce there size of the photo but like you I am not so ofay with it so I plead and send them to Bob Bacon which I am sure will stop having bubbled him, but Bob is just a computer geneous and Im not , Good Luck

Thanks to everyone that posted advice on this, Sharon has come to the rescue and all the photos are now up loaded on the forum .hope you enjoy .............
