I'm very saddened to hear this. Ted was a real character, spending time in his company over a pint was always a pleasure. A very dry sense of humour and a fantastic storyteller, his tales of soldiering in Hong Kong are firmly imprinted in my mind. My deepest sympathies to Cherry and their family at this very sad time.

Very fond memories of Ted in 12 plt. D Coy Hong Kong. I was his "chef" when he'd "borrowed" some meat (sausage, bacon, chicken etc) from the cookhouse at 3 ish in the morning. He'd wake me up and say "get the mess tin's out and the stove we've got cooking to do" What a character, you'll be missed Ted. RIP

Thank you for your words, David/Ted , my husband, went very quickly this afternoon , we are not sure yet whether it was a heart attack or something to do with the brain, but it was quick and so sudden , we, our sons, Paul and Robert are still trying to take it in. He expected it all the time , but I would say , no , he will be around for many more years to give me a hard time. My husband was a man among men, If I was ever in trouble , he is the one I would want in my corner to fight for me. He filled a room when he walked into it, He was my rock. His last coherent words? All I want is a fag and a cup of tea ,to the ambulance man. The rest of the sentence was a bit blue.He fought to the last.

Cherry,

Please know that you have my deepest sympathy on the loss of Ted. I know that there is little I can say to console you but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this tragic time.

I have such fond memories of Ted from all those very wonderful years we served together. He was such a distinguished man and had such a pleasing personality; he was also so much fun to be around and I will miss his great wit and charm.

I hope that knowing that others share in your grief will bring you and your family some consolation

So sorry to hear this sad news. Ted was a great man in every sense. Super sense of humour, loyal to all and wonderful company. He was a long standing stalwart of a fine 1RWF mortar platoon in the 1970s and mentored many of the youngsters who joined when the platoon adopted a rifle platoon role for NI. I have many fine memories of time spent in Ted's company. He will be sorely missed and I send my heartfelt condolences to his family.

There are many kinds of sorrows
In this world of love and hate
But there is no sterner sorrow
Than a soldier's for his mate.

Yet again, more tragic news with the premature passing of Ted.

I shared many a beer with Ted and he was brilliant company. One of his strengths was his wicked sense of humour, coupled by the impish grin whenever a "Wind Up" or a "Cunning Plan" had either been executed or being orchestrated.

Verna and I offer our heartfelt sympathy to Cherry and family in their time of sorrow. It is hoped that some comfort can be taken from the messages and tributes paid to Ted on this Forum which have identified his popularity, friendship and the esteem in which he was held.

Deepest condolences are also conveyed on behalf of all members of the London Branch RWFCA.

Cherry, Thank you for this, it must be very hard for you. My thoughts, and so many others in the Regiment, are with you today. It is quite clear to me that Ted was greatly 'loved' by so many. For me he seems to have been a regular feature of my military life. He was always a great pleasure to spend some time with yarning. His particular brand of humour and wicked grin always went down well - he will be missed but will be well remembered. Bob
