I have been approached by an elderly gentleman by the name of Len Gethin, he wishes to know if any of his Comrades are still alive, particularly those who in 1944 in Normandy served in A Company 6th. Battalion RWF but were then attached to the 7th. Battlion. Please can anyone help.

Hello Jim,
I have a former Fusilier in my branch who went over on "D" day + 3. He served with the 4th & 9th battalions. He was wounded 3 times and fought from Caen right through to the Reichswald. His number was 14497242 Fus Bill Brown. Unfortunately he is suffering from dementia and cancer and his condition has worsened over the last 6 months. So trying to extract information from him is a non runner. But I thought I might just as well post the information.
Regards Brian pp Bridgend branch RWFCA

Thanks Bryan,
I realised that it was going to be a tough job, I will note your info and wait and see if any more comes in before I contact Len Gethin.

Best wishes Jim Lawson

Dear Jim,
I’m confident that there will be Ex members of the 6th & 7th Battalion RWF that served with Len back in 1944, although advance in age by now, still living in the Battalions recruiting are of the time, north west and mid Wales. I would respectful suggest approaching the editors of local newspapers with a view of placing an article titled “Normandy soldier seeking lost friends” The Daley Post and other Wales papers have been helpful in the passed.
