Good morning Ladies and Gents,

I have recieved a fair few emails from the lads leaving and coming over to Iraq/Afghan/Maritime or other types of security work, asking for advice. I wish to put forward a list of the types of courses which a lot of the lads dont do prior to leavin, but can help them out. In this changing working enviroment, and with lots of competion from other individuals, you need as many qualifications as you can in order to get ahead. I hope that the other ex senior members on this site will also give their views.

1. Firstly, dont leave...stay in as long as you can.!
2. Health and Safety; NEBOSH, IOSH, COSH. HSE Food Hygiene, al lthese courses are good to have.
3. Medical: Minimum level should be IHCD FPOS (I), HSE First Aid at Work, AED (Defib) User. Do not do some hugly expensive cours, with lots of additional things added, just to get a minimum qualification (if in doubt please email me)
4. If you are a medic: then you need to look at 1. IHCD Ambulance Technicians course. 2. Offshore Medics course. 3. NREMT.
5. SIA: speaks for its self!
6. PSD/CP course. There are lots to choose from. Go onto the website 'Close Protection World' the main companies are on there.
7. Start making contacts: I can assure you; It is the 'old boys network' and getting a good reference form lads already here that gets you the good places. Start getting in touch with lads already on the circuit.

Just a few points as i am sat here, with my coffee prior to going out for the day!
