Paul,
Try: http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/BuyTickets.aspx
I think if you book 7 days before travel you can ask for an advance ticket, saving you a couple of bob on the normal price

Hello Paul,
For some inexplicable reason the train fares to Wrexham are most confusing to say the least.
Last year I paid £18-30p for a return ticket to Wrexham. I tried to book early (April) this year as I have bought a disabled year pass and am supposed to get 30% off the regular fare, but the fare quoted was £44-20p. On pricing my ticket for Wrexham in early August the price was £38-44p.I asked if I bought my ticket LATER what would the price be, I was informed that all the counter clerk could tell me was that it would be a maximum of £ 44-20p. Also as a point of interest the Wrexham train discharges all the passengers at Shrewsbury due to track maintenance and a bus is laid on and it stops at all the stops the train would have if it was running and the first chance you have of catching a connection to other destinations in south and west Wales is at Newport. Not very appealing.
