Good Afternoon.
As some of you may be aware the large Royal Welch Fusiliers Archive has recently completed its move from Caernarvon to Kingsmill in Wrexham.
It is now located over 3 floors of an old water mill, which are now full of archived notes, diaries, published works, maps, uniforms etc.
The archivist there, Brian Owen, supported by Lt General Jonathon Riley, is looking for 10 to 12 volunteers, for assistance with research for enquiries, (family history mainly), transcription of diaries and letters and digitization of photos and documents. There are an estimated 1000 enquiries per year to be returned after the appropriate fee is received.
These are the main areas at present – others will no doubt arise.
We can’t pay a wage but we are happy to meet expenses.
The work may suit ex- members of the Regiment but could equally be of interest to anyone keen on social history and/or archives.
If you have a few hours a week, are within travelling distance please send me an E mail (militaryresearch@hotmail.co.uk) for more details – or my telephone number is: 01948 780 688.
This sort of opportunity does not come along very often and unlimited access to these archives is an exciting prospect.
Regards,
Simon
