Alphas reunion 2012.

Guys.
Though we are still to have this years reunion we have to think of next year.

i have looked at the members of the group and their locations,looks to me that most live in south wales,
so a reunion some were south i think, would be better and get more people there.
we need a venue.
Any member know of a place, post it with contact numbers please, then we can look at the most central to all.
i was thinking towards the end of April or early May.
one venue in the book from Brian Mead (BRIANM) is the Joint services club in Cardiff.
we will also be looking for beds in the area.
so any b/b, hotels in the area of the venue,contact numbers please.

Hello Chow,
Brian Mead has chosen a good venue at the United services club in Cardiff. More to the point a good and reasonably priced hotel is within walking distance (if sober) it is the ETAP if you google the ETAP you will find more details and prices. I could check on the Bridgend United services club and B&B is also within walking distance I expect the steward could do a buffet. I can make enquiries if you like but the Cardiff venue is good.It is early days as yet.

Hello Chow,
I am doing a feasibility study on the Bridgend United Services Mess as a possible venue for the "Alphas" The club will put a buffet on if you wish to. They have a fair size room upstairs it seats about 60 comfortably. There are some good hotels and B&B's in Bridgend. One hotel the Wyndham which has been taken over by Wetherspoons is only about a ten minute walk to the club, and a double room costs £49-00p a night. there is also the Maerdy Hotel, Ewwenny Farm and these last two cost about £39-00p a night. Plus of course there are quite a few B&B's in and around the town centre. Points to watch out for any big events at the Millennium Stadium that are popular and some people use Bridgend for these events and catch a train to Cardiff (half an hour) so you will need to check upon any Rugby union matches around the time you expect to hold the reunion. Plus any Olympic games and association football matches even if they are on the TV. I will keep my eye on the news from the Bridgend united services club and keep in touch.

I have had a chat with Tony at the United Services Mess.
I have confirmed our booking for the reunion in Cardiff.
He tells me the club will not be open to the general public on Saturday night
so we will have to cover the bar person for the night approx £50.
they can lay on a buffet if required in a room opposite the lounge bar.
at £5 a head,
i must tell you that we have 39 members and friend attending at the moment so space may be an issue.
so to combat that the attendance list will be on the door.
If your names not on it you will not get in.

The question has been asked as to a raffle.on the evening.


I NEED TO KNOW NUMBERS FOR A BUFFET..£5 a head.
£1 a head to cover the bar person as the mess is not open on a Saturday.
Just a reminder this is predominately an Alphas reunion...

my concerns were with the list getting bigger weather there would be room in the lounge.
he tells me that we should get up to sixty in the bar comfortable,
and the buffet can be set up in the Cardiff room across the corridor from the lounge.

Anyone driving into Cardiff city centre to attend the function, Westgate St is closed to all traffic from the castle entrance, due to road works.

Comrades we are..59 strong with 42 requiring the buffet.
£1 on the door for all..
£5 a head for the buffet.
still a week to go so room yet for more,if you know any one who would like to attend please make them aware of the dress code for the mess.
I will print the attendance list on the 3rd of May as i will be travelling on the Friday..
if names are not on the list then people should have a think,because some times refusal can offend...and they will be refused entry to the mess.
We are close to capacity for the room booked (health and safety)
so to have to move rooms at the last minuet would be a pain,...

As far as i know this is going on untill 19th of the month, cheapest car park in town is John Lewis, opposite the CIA, come in off Newport road and into the city past the prison, it's right at the 2nd set of lights.

Well i woke in my room Saturday about 7am I lay there looking at the hanging space and thought there is some thing missing.
then it came to me NO SUIT oh my god i can see it in my mind hanging in my bedroom at home.
mad dash to find one.after meeting up with Vince Murphy and a pint we found Sadlers at 1130am £91 new suit and shirt,tailored and ready to go at 1200..brilliant..now have a new suit..what a service you could see the tailor at work...

Firstly I would like to thank Chow and any one else who helped make the night so wonderful. The 7 branch members from Bridgend all had a good time, and are waiting for the replay. In passing we all thought the venue service and buffet par excellence as one would expect from such a galaxy of R.W.F. talent that was gathered on the night. ( If only the devil could cast his net) I would like to mention to Guv that some of us went back more than the 30 years he mentioned in an earlier thread, it is more like 62 years, Many thanks for putting up with us. Such as Brian Mead and myself from the dark and distant past of the Posting to Jamaica. many thanks to you all gentlemen for a wonderful night. See you all again.
