Hi All, many thanks for the really great info ref the No 5 Jungle Rifle....and Walters is now seeking to delve into the collective memory. I am after any radio appointment titles which we used in NI prior to radio comms going secure as I am helping with an education project.

I recall such as: SOCO (for the scene of crime officer); RUCSAC (for RUC); POINTER (for the RMP team); WAGTAIL (for the search dog); NIGHTSUN (for the heli search light)....but some key ones elude my decaying memory (addled from many excesses I fear), such as the Doc, ATO, RE Search Team etc.

May I disturb and ask for any that come to mind, gentlemen? Many thanks for your help.

Here's a few CLICK! (http://www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/Appointment_Titles)

But I've never heard of some of the ones in that link and I knew every single appointment title that existed in any infantry sigs pamphlet - trust me!

But as for NI specific ones - or even general ones, my memory fails me now - my main one these days is "'er indoors" - which is a few notches above "Moonbeam's Sunray"!!

"Coffee Pot" was one (female RMP as opposed to female UDR which as mentioned, was 'Greenfinch' - quite apt really - common bird)

One I really liked, which may well have been unique to RWF was 'Brimstone' for the padre.

'Snapper' was another - riot dog.

My thanks to all so far. Everything very useful. As I see each one, the memory kicks back in!

Very grateful. Owen W

Now that one really had dropped from memory. Ugly things. You have sparked another question, though....what was the huge piece of RE plant, with grab/bucket at the front and heavily armoured cab which we deployed to move such as vehicle sized road blocks? Owen W

Another i think maybe, Coffee Pot - Female RMP (Desperate Dan on the 81 Tour.) Even frightend the boys when she climbed into the Pig.
