For those of you familiar with Fraser's brilliant Flashman stories and his Burma memoirs. Let me suggest another " The Complete Mcauslan" is an account of Fraser's service immediately after the war, as a newly commissioned officer in a highland regiment. Its a really a large book of short stories from his regiment serving in Edinburgh, the middle east and other locations. Superbly written, he conveys the life of a young officer and his platoon full of reprobates in detail.
The book is achingly funny, as you read through, you will identify similar characters from our own regiment. Its a great read and George's own character shines through. He was an officer, but a bloody good bloke.
