Wow, what can I say?

June is certainly taking its quota of the "Cream of the Regiment", claiming yet another icon, and has mercilessly punched a gaping hole in the guts of the RWFCA.

Ralph's background was predominately Sigs Pl and I didn't really get to know him until I was a SNCO in Hong Kong (1970) and enjoyed his company both professionally and socially. Both he and his late wife Betty were the life and soul of the Sgts Mess and the first to embrace and educate new Mess members and wives regarding Mess etiquette!

As a result of postings, I lost touch with Ralph but did bump into him and his brother Alun 46 at the funeral of Rally Jones.

Now re-united with Betty, I would go as far as to say that a contributory factor to his passing was a broken heart!

Sincere condolences to Alun and Lynne plus other family members and friends from myself, Verna and family.

Condolences also from all members of the London Branch RWFCA.

Ralph was my first Pln Sgt when I joined the Sigs in Minden 1965, he was a good man who took care of his Lads, again Ralph showed me the ropes when I first got to the WO and Sgt Mess he made sure that I and Jan settled into the mess, I was very fond of Ralph a good bloke. My condolences go to Alun,Lynne and family Jan and I share their sorrow at this sad time. Rest in Peace Ralph until we meet again.

Hello,
The Bridgend &District branch of the RWFCA extend their sympathy to all Ralph's family and friends.
As pointed out in a couple of threads June has been a very bad month for the RWFCA.So I am quoting a truncated poem from the pen of John Donne English poet and cleric.
"Speak not to me of death,
For the death of man kind diminishes me,
And I am deeply involved with mankind,
No man is an island entire unto himself,
We are all part of the main,
Part of a continent,
There fore send not to ask for whom the bell tolls,
Brother it tolls for thee".

Ralph 28 was PSI HQ Coy 3rd bat 1971 time ,Roy was RSM what a great team and what a great loss. Our thoughts are with the families .If there is an army on the other side then who would expect to be in the RWF,s corner ,RIP Two immensly gifted soldiers who stood above all and looked after allwho came under their wing.. Gone but never will we forget what these giants of military expertise have left their and given their all for the ROYAL WELCH FUSILIERS which meant so much to all who served with them.RIP ,

I had the honour of Ralph being my first platoon sergeant when I joined the Battalion in Minden in 1966 and was posted to the Signals Platoon. He taught me much and I was proud to learn from him. He was also my CSM in Tidworth during my time with the Recce/Vigilant Platoon

Ralph was a hugely popular figure and a natural leader in every way. A man of much charm, wit and funny in every way. He was also a fine soldier too and, in my eyes, one of the most professional I have known. He was the very epitome of a Royal Welch soldier: compassionate to all and unswervingly loyal to his friends. Many a time he demonstrated this by his willingness to go the extra mile, regardless of the situation.

My thoughts go out to his family that are left behind at this sad time. Farewell my friend.

What a month Icannot wait to see it disappear at the end of next week. Shirley and I extend our sincere condolences to Alan and Lynne as well as to all of those who served and knew Ralph well. What was need to be said has already been expressed in this thread already another Royal Welch legend leaves this mortal coil for that great parade ground above. Until we meet again...God Bles and sleep tight.
